As we pass through the small railroad towns of Chama, Monero, Dulce, Navajo, Gato, Ignacio, La Boca, and Florida enjoy the rich Southwestern culture preparing us for arrival in Durango, a narrow gauge paradise. An added bonus is rare film from the Rio Grande's Santa Fe Branch. You will see the narrow gauge mixed train during its last year of operation on the Chili Line in 1941

Tennessee Pass Vol 4 - Locomotive 844 DVD

Part #: MAC-TENN4DR4

Machines of Iron

Tennessee Pass Vol 4 - Locomotive 844 DVD During June of 1997 the Union Pacific in cooperation with the National Railway Historical Society operated an excursion using the 844 over Tennessee Pass. The trip started from Denver’s historic station which once hosted the passenger trains of 6 railroads and is now the home of only two visits a day from Amtak. This line, topping out at 10,212 feet, was one of the highest standard gauge lines in North America. The line was constructed by the Denver & Rio Grande starting from Pueblo, reaching Canon City in 1874. The line was extended through the Royal Gorge to Salida and Leadville in 1880 as a 3 foot gauge route to serve the many mines in the area. The D&RG standard gauged the track in 1912 and ultimately Tennessee Pass became the Denver & Rio Grande Western’s primary transcontinental route until completion of the Moffat tunnel and Dotsero cut off. One of the things that made this trip special was it was well known the line’s days were numbered. The line was closed in early August 1997 with final operations completed in December and, other than the Pueblo - Parkdale section, has remained out of service. Features: Run Time 61 Minutes Includes Chapters & Selectable Audio Tracks DVDR Format

The Royal Gorge Route DVD

Part #: MAC-ROYALGORGEROUTE

Machines of Iron

DVD The Royal Gorge Route. This is perhaps the final look at one of the most incredible railroad lines in the United States. On August 23, 1997 Union Pacific ran the last through train over this former Rio Grande main line, possibly the end of "the big show" of railroading on this historic Colorado route. Fortunately, the cameras were there when the railroad was still running full tilt. See everything from the manifest to coal and taconite trains. Lots of mainline diesel action! Minturn was still a busy place with helpers being cut in and out. See the entire line threatened with closure, from Dotsero to Canon City. See the depths of Eagle River Canyon, the 3% climb to Tennessee Pass (and a train with 10 locomotives), Colorado's highest peaks, the Arkansas River Canyon, and the Royal Gorge. This spectacular railroad may now be silent, but the trains still roar on your TV!
